In this day and age when most people tend to want to do remodeling to their home, there are lots of options that are available. Most people think that it will cost too much to remodel their home. There are many ways out there to save more and reach your goal of an improved home.

Here are some tips to help you with the home improvement process.
1. Take a good look in every room of the house, check for cracks or leaks, and fix them.
2. Have an interior designer advice you on your project. If the quote to finish the entire project is too expensive, check with other contractors for a better deal.
3. It is best to do this work when things are slow for a contractor to be sure you get the best deal.
4. If you are good with their hands, consider doing some simple cabinetry. Assembling shelves that are available from furniture stores are an easy Do-It-Yourself project.
5. Another way to Do-It-Yourself is repainting the ceiling and walls. This is an inexpensive way to make your home look brand new. Plan ahead when you want to get this done. It is best to paint one room at a time.
6. Curb appeal is key to any home, especially if you want to make you home look like new every time you come home. Add flowers and plants to your landscaping. Change siding or paint the outside.
7. Make sure that your back yard is another open entertainment area. You can add a patio just by going to a place, purchasing bricks or stones and laying them yourself.
8. Finish off spaces that are not. Basements can add not only square footage, but also valuable space for entertainment or for your kids to play.

No matter what you choose as your home remodel project, you can improve your home at anytime you want. However, choosing when to improve your home and deciding what you want to do to your house should be done carefully. Doing it at the right time, either by yourself or finding the right contractor can save you a lot of money.

Special Education Has Changed Over Time

Special education has been assisting students with learning disabilities in the United States education system since the end of World War II. The first push for special education started when a group of parent-organized advocacy groups surfaced. In 1947 one of the first organizations, the American Association on Mental Deficiency, held its first convention. That marked a starting point for special education as we know it today.

Started during the Civil Rights Movement in the early 1950s, the United Cerebral Palsy Association, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and John F. Kennedys Panel on Mental Retardation were among an increased amount of advocacy groups for assisted learning programs. This strong push helped bring special education into schools across the country in the 1960's as school access was established for children with disabilities at state and local levels.

The parent advocacy groups dating back to 1947 laid the ground floor for government legislation being approved by Congress in 1975 that was called the Education for All Handicapped Children Act (Public Law 94-142). This act went into effect in October of 1977 and it was the beginning for federal funding of special education in schools nationwide. The act required public schools to offer "free appropriate public education" to students with a wide range of disabilities, including "physical handicaps, mental retardation, speech, vision and language problems, emotional and behavioral problems, and other learning disorders."

The law from 1977 was extended in 1983 to offer parent training and information centers. Later in 1986 the government started programs targeting youngsters with potential learning disabilities. The Act from 1975 was changed to the "Individuals with Disabilities Education Act" (IDEA) in 1990. Since establishment of IDEA more than 6.5 million children and 200,000+ toddlers and infants are being assisted each year.

Special education in schools often unintentionally overlooks a key aspect of why students suffer from learning disabilities. The reasons for common learning disabilities are weak cognitive skills. Studies show that 80% of students enrolled in special education at some level suffer from underlying weak cognitive skills. Cognitive skills are the mental capabilities that one needs to successfully learn academic subjects. In more detail cognitive skills are learning skills used to retain information; process, analyze, and store facts and feelings; and create mental pictures, read words, and understand concepts. They are not to be confused with academic skills which would include subjects like math, science, or history.

Proper testing to identify these weak cognitive skills will help quality learning centers put together a plan of action to strengthen them. This sort of training will last a lifetime. By not targeting the cognitive skills a student will struggle for the rest of their life until they are trained properly. It is highly recommended that you get your child tested at a learning training center that provides cognitive testing. Once tested a personal, unique training program can be developed for your child to overcome their learning disability.

Become the Jones Let the Neighbors try to keep up These Home Improvements are so simple that anyon

Wouldn't be nice to know if people are saying nice things or bad things about your home? Some people will draw a comparison between you and your home. Today image is everything. Most people want their homes to look like a showplace. This is why TV shows that do home makeovers are so well-liked. Ask yourself these questions: Is your house a makeover? Did you purposely buy that fixer-upper because you thought that you could do the work yourself? Did your spouse start a project and not finish it? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you at least admitted that you have a problem. This problem, no matter how big it is, is something that you can fix or have fixed.

It would be nice if everyone that needed an update on their home could get one via these ever popular home makeover shows. Obviously since this is not going to happen, you have two options. Go to your local hardware/home store and try to get some help to do it yourself. Remember, do-it-yourself places will only guide you in the process; they will not be able to assist you any further than that, but this is a much cheaper way to get the job done if you are handy. You can also get in touch with your local builder or contractor and get a quote on the job. Find out how much work and how much money is involved in order to improve your home's and your selfs image. Once you have an idea about the extent of the makeover and the cost of it, then the next step would be to figure out how you are going to pay for the job to be done. The options are save, save, and save that money until you have enough, take out a second mortgage, or apply for a home loan.

Here are some tips to remember when looking for financing for your home improvement project. It is important to remember to shop around before jumping at the first quote that you like.
Make sure to gets several quotes for your job. Also, consider doing your home improvement during the down season for contractors as this will save you a bundle of money. You always have to prepare yourself for any cost overruns as well. When you budget for your home improvement, you may want to save or borrow an amount that is above the quoted price that the builder gave you.

No matter what your home improvement project is or how you decide to finance it, remember image and increasing the value of your property is your goal. No matter what you do, whether it's a smaller project like repainting the house or something bigger like a room addition onto the home, it will do wonders for yourself and your neighbors alike. You will then not have to worry about what others say about you and your castle.

Relax the Easy Way

Leave the Rest of the World Behind
There is no better way to set a calm, serene atmosphere in your home than by creating a serenity area. Every home should have a room or area decorated with tranquility in mind. At the same time, it should be comfortable for all of those dwelling within the home. With these ideas, you can undertake a simple home improvement project with very beneficial results.

Make a Retreat out of Existing Home-Construction
While color and lighting can create the right effect for a serenity room, the ideal way to create this space is with the great outdoors. Combining the tranquility of Mother Nature with the comforts of home, you can achieve the perfect balance. Dressing up a normal deck with the right furnishings allows you to strike the precise cord, making a harmonious setting for serenity and relaxation.

Look at the Big Picture
There are many elements to consider when designing your patio retreat. You must think about the potential views, the existing construction of your deck and most importantly, your personal preferences. Also, you should pick your outdoor furniture and style based on the climate in your area. The key to achieving a relaxing environment is remembering subtlety; overdoing any particular theme will overwhelm rather than soothe.

Eyeing the Details
After processing the features of your outdoors area, you may move on to more particular details. There are many themes that can create a reposeful realm. Just as with music, you can orchestrate a symphony by playing the right notes together. Depending on your preferences and personality, you may find that combining eclectic styles suits your taste; or, you may find that sticking to a single motif gives more appealing results.

Get in Touch with Your Inner Style
Style possibilities are endless. An Asian-inspired theme, for example, lends itself well to winding down after a long day. Clean lines and solid colors, such as black aluminum, is the way to arrive at this style of choice. Another theme you can follow is the graceful design of beautiful French ironwork sets. Different distressed metal finishes can create this style. For an entirely different look, opt for the rustic motif of wicker furniture. Comfortable, easy chairs and benches are available in a wide array of lovely and appealing colors. Employing simplicity, all of these designs, and many others, create a crisp, clean look and feel. For added elegance, assemble a smart arrangement of plants or buy a soothing fountain.

Reap the Rewards of Planning
Careful assessment, fine-tuning and a well laid plan make your meditation dreams a reality. Everyone needs a retreat – somewhere to go without distractions and frenzy. Make your patio area this oasis with a few simple improvements. You’ll be amazed how such an idea can really replenish your body and soul.

Best Insurance Policy For Relationships

"I've been having an affair and my wife doesn't know about it," John, a forty-two-year-old salesman, told me remorsefully.

"I feel so guilty for sneaking around with my lover," Betty, a married woman with two small children, expressed with exasperation.

Husband and wife, Victor and Sandy, both admitted to me in their private sessions that they wanted to have an affair but they controlled their desire. However, they thought that if things kept up the way they were, they may pursue other lovers.

These are only a few examples of the many clients who admitted their desires and experiences of extra-marital relationships to me behind the closed door of my office.

My response to every one of those distraught clients who confirmed that they loved their marriage partner was, "If you could have with your spouse what you are receiving from your lover, would you end your affair?" The answer from practically every guilt-ridden client was, "Yes." In fact, there was a sign of great relief on their faces as they entertained the thought that they could receive what they wanted from their husband or wife.

With a process I developed, HART which stands for Holistic and Rapid Transformation, I then proceeded to explore with the client what they found lacking with their spouse that they were seeking in others. Once they were clear, I invited their partner in for a session to do the same.

Ninety-nine percent of the time, I discovered that the spouse also felt discontented in the relationship. They too were having a secret affair, or they were expressing their frustrations in other ways-for example, by gaining weight, not keeping their agreements, overspending, withholding affection, nagging, or being verbally or physically abusive.

Ironically, I found that both husband and wife were in tune with their wants and needs. In fact, we can make one list that applies to both partners. The following is a short summary of what most people want from their marriage partner:

1) respect and appreciation

2) support to be their unique selves

3) quality time together

4) new and varied activities

5) win-win problem solving

6) constructive communication

7) alone time

8) some separate activities

9) affection and fulfilling love making

10) unconditional love

Experiencing these qualities with your spouse is probably the best insurance policy that you can have in your relationship. There is no need to look elsewhere when you have it all.

Medication For Treating Your Panic Attack Symptoms

Panic Attacks are an emotional disorder which can completely take over your life. They make you extremely vulnerable, and you constantly question whether another panic attack is on the way. This sometimes results in sufferers being too scared to leave the house, in case they have a panic attack in public. The constant questioning creates fear in your mind, which in turn makes you even more vulnerable to another panic attack.

So what are you able to do to combat this? A relatively quick solution would be to get hold of medications which are known to reduce the panic attack symptoms. Below are just a few:

Beta Blockers

Beta blockers are prescribed to help control rapid heartbeat, trembling and blushing, which are all symptoms of panic attacks. Unlike many other panic attack medications beta blockers do not have too many side effects. Although there can be some, such as, insomnia, short-term memory loss, nightmares, and drowsiness. Like all panic attack medications, beta blockers do not cure the disorder they simply help to easy the symptoms.

Benzodiazepines

6 Steps To The Perfect Bathtub

Bathing in a bathtub after a tiring day at work is not just a great way to clean yourself but also relaxes you completely. However, your bath may not end up being that relaxing after all if you do not have the right bathtub. It is not just a matter of choosing the right color to go with your bathroom, or ensuring that the style is correct; but a whole lot more. Thus, this article lists all the factors that need to be considered when choosing a bathtub so that you end up buying the ideal one.

1) Features and functionality: Before going from store to store looking at different tubs, make sure you know what all you need the bathtub for, besides regular bathing of course. Different bathtubs have different features and functions, so make sure you will use all the features of a particular tub. For example, whirlpool tubs can tempt anyone as they look so comfortable and fascinating and you may end up buying one simply due to the novelty of the jets. However, will you really be using those jets? Can you justify the increased electricity expense and extra water wastage? If not, stay away from the whirlpool tub and buy one that has features which are more in keeping with your needs.

2) Tub size: The size of the bathtub is a major purchase criterion. People often assume that if the tub is big enough to fit them comfortably then it is the right size. However, there is such a thing as a too big bathtub. While the tub should definitely not be small for you, there shouldnt be too much extra space either, which results in water wastage. Another thing to consider is whether you want a one person or two person tub. If you are likely to want to share your bathtub with your partner, go in for the 2 person one. However, if bath time is when you want to be with your thoughts, then choose the regular sized single person bathtubs.

3) Design, shape, and color: The color of a bathtub may not increase its functionality, but is an important consideration as the tub has to match the rest of your bathroom fixtures and accessories. Same goes for the design and style of the bathtub. A bathtub that is of a different style than your sink or toilet may look very out of place. As far as colors go cream and white are the regular options, but different hues of blue, pink, brown, green, and maroon are also available to match your dcor. Rectangle, corner tubs, heart shaped, and oval are your choices as far as bathtub shape goes.

4) Bathtub material: Not all tubs are made from the same material. Some are made of wood, some marble, some cast iron, whereas others are made of acrylic, porcelain and even fiberglass. The material of the tub is what eventually determines how long lasting the tub will be, how strong it will be, how much it will cost, and how easy or difficult it will be to keep the tub clean. For instance, fiberglass tubs are great if you are looking for a cheaply priced bathtub, but these may not last you for years on end. As far as durability is concerned, cast iron tubs are a great buy but they can set you back by a pretty penny. Thus, you need to look at the pros and cons of different construction materials for bathtubs and then pick one depending on what you want most from your tub durability, attractiveness, ease of maintenance, strength, or cost effectiveness.

5) Soaking or standard: The difference between a standard bathtub and a soaking tub is that the soaking variety is much deeper and enables you to immerse your entire body into the warm water instead of just your lower half. And since tubs are now being used for their therapeutic value as they help lower stress, relieve pain, and lower hypertension, you need to decide whether you want such a tub or not. If you do, then you will be better off buying a soaking tub instead of a regular bathtub.

6) Special Needs: Bathtubs have traditionally not been very user friendly if you are old or handicapped. Getting in and out of bathtubs can be dangerous for people with such special needs, and there is also a danger of slipping and hurting yourself. However, with ADA compliant bathtubs, you need not worry about all this anymore. ADA tubs are manufactured such that entry and exit is extremely easy and they also offer protection from slip and fall accidents due to the presence of grab bars and grab rails. Thus, if you or any family members have special requirements, do consider buying an ADA tub.

Thus, after considering the above factors, you can shortlist a few bathtubs for your home. Your final decision should only be made after actually testing the tub by laying in it. This way, you can gauge that the size is absolutely right and your neck, back and limbs are adequately supported.

This guide on choosing bathtubs should hopefully make the difference between picking the right one and the wrong one.

Rob Barnes writes for Bath Tubs For You, a consumer guide dedicated to helping you find the perfect
bathtub, with reviews of various brands and styles like wood bathtubs and whirlpool tubs.

Do you care about someone with a mental illness

My big brother, Tom, has challenges beyond my understanding. He struggles with schizoaffective disorder. Although I've never looked up his "diagnosis" in the official record of mental illnesses, the DSM, I know he has problems. I know this by his fixations on seemingly benign things that happened 20 years ago. Or the threats he might make from time to time to family members who love him.

Tom goes through cycles, ups and downs, which is typical for people suffering some types of mental dis-ease like schizoaffective or bi polar disorder. Despite his struggles, my parents have always required Tom to work and forge ahead as best he can. I lost track of the jobs he's had, mainly because there have been so many! Over the years my siblings and I have taken on various roles in his life. Most of us have simply drifted away from him ignoring his desire to spend time with each of us. My hunch is that many "affected others" ignore and stay away because they don't understand the illness or they feel compelled to "do" something to make "it" better. It can be very challenging and frustrating for the caregiver/ or affected other to interact with the person without feeling overwhelmed.

There are ways to stay connected to or participate in the life of someone struggling with mental dis-ease. My top 5 list include:

1. Make a list of things you can offer the person. Maybe you enjoy the movies and will commit to taking him/her every 2 months or so. My commitment to Tom is to have him come stay with me for 4 days every 2 months. The important thing here is consistency and follow through. Try not to take on more than you can reasonably do. Remember, for someone who might have a small social circle, this date with you may be critically important to the person.

2. Try to let go of all wishes and desires for certain behaviors for the person. Simply meet them where they are and "be" with them instead of "doing" anything that you feel might "help" them or "heal" them.

3. Always check with the person before giving them something that you think they might want. I have found that many times we "think" the person would like something when in fact they don't. Don't be offended or try to encourage it, simply let it go and honor the answer you are given. Now there are exceptions to this. One might be if you are trying to encourage better dress habits. Tom, for example hates wearing socks and underwear. If he is coming somewhere with me I make it a requriement that he at least put socks on!

4. Have a solid set of boundaries for dealing with the person. If you are not able to give something, tell them. Don't treat them differently from how you might treat someone else. It takes too much energy and, quite frankly, it's unnecessary. Treating all people with respect and honesty is generally a good policy.

5. Send the person a card or make a quick phone call just to say "HI, I was thinking about ya". Nothing more nothing less, just a small but significant thing.

In the end, all relationships with people struggling with mental dis-ease can be a challenge. But caring for yourself and taking appropriate steps to protect your life will, in the end, help you to keep on giving.

Gardening hints for healthy happy plants

Plants - like all living things - have basic, minimum requirements to sustain them. Generally, they are food, water and a suitable environment. But if you want them to thrive you need to get more specific. One of the best things to do is look around your neighborhood and see what kinds of plants look great. It means they love your local conditions and are probably easy to grow.

With real estate, the 3 key things to remember are location, location, location. With plants it’s preparation, preparation, preparation! Your plants will thrive if you take care of the basics before bringing them home. You need to make sure your soil is enriched with organic material, providing ongoing, accessable nutrients.

This will also help with conditioning of the soil, encouraging helpful micro-organisms and creating the correct PH levels. Continue to add organic matter to the soil for as long as you want a healthy garden.

Be sure to plant your new plant(s) in a suitable place for them in your garden. Some plants cannot tolerate full sun. Others need a minimum of five hours sun to do well.

Also, take into consideration the mature size of the plant. If you have a small courtyard planting a seedling that will mature into a large tree could be a costly mistake. Read the label on your plant or ask the nursery staff if you’re unsure.

Watering is essential to keeping your plants healthy and happy. Deep watering once or twice a week(depending on your rainfall and the season), rather than surface watering often is far more beneficial to plants as it encourages them to grow deeper root systems.

Deeper root systems allow plants to access water and valuable nutrients and gives them the ability to withstand longer periods without water.
Mulching with organic material is also beneficial to your garden, preventing moisture loss, soil erosion and helping with weed control, while adding organic matter.

Remember to experiment with your garden. That’s the only way to discover what plants love living in your area and those that don’t. Try different things and see what works for you. You could chat with your plants or even try planting with the cycles of the moon.

Children love to be involved with the garden. If they show interest you could offer them a small plot of their own to look after. They will be delighted with their efforts when they see tiny seeds mature into food or flowers, and so will you.

The Eternally Useful Ceiling Fan

The Advantage of an Ordinary Ceiling Fan
You may have installed that ceiling fan in the den because it complemented your décor. Or, perhaps, you placed one in the kitchen to circulate the cooking odors. You figured that the ceiling fan would save you money on air conditioning. All of these are great reasons to purchase a ceiling fan. In addition, there are many hidden features and important additional reasons to purchase this classic household item.
Ceiling fans don’t require much more energy than that needed to power a 100-watt bulb. And yet, their multi-seasonal usefulness means that your ceiling fan will deliver benefits all year round. During the cold winter months, a well-placed fan, rotating clockwise, draws the warmth generated by heaters, up to the ceiling and back down along the walls of the room. This function distributes the heat evenly, thus eliminating unpleasant ‘cold spots’ that result from ordinary radiators or central heating.
Feel the Effect Throughout the Year
When summer blooms, your air conditioning or fan cooling system will be more efficient and less taxed if accompanied by a ceiling fan. Running counter-clockwise, your fan will circulate the cool air equally throughout the area. This cools the room off more effectively, enabling you to use your cooling system on a lower setting, and to save on electricity. Research shows a noticeable reduction of up to 8 Fahrenheit when a fan is used in conjunction with the air conditioning. You’ll feel that difference in your comfort and your pocket book right away.
Finally, even during times when the fan doesn't need to work in tandem with the heating or cooling, a ceiling fan will prove highly useful. During the placid days of autumn and spring and the interment pleasant weather in the winter and summer, you can take advantage of the mild climate by opening your windows and turning on a fan. This fan will create a pleasant breeze, a naturally comfortable atmosphere and a serene environment. No season will pass without the benefit of a ceiling fan.
Get the Most Out of Your Fan
To optimize your fan, there are several factors to take into account. You must carefully consider the placement of your fan. The key spots for fans are in the most frequently used rooms and the ones where air circulation is the most vital. The kitchen, any places where dust or dampness accumulates, and any room where someone smokes, are precisely the areas that need even-air distribution. In addition, make sure that when you run the fan, you ensure that the blades aren’t too close together, lest they perform less than optimally.
In addition to their usefulness, the natural style of a ceiling fan makes them must-haves to the keen decorator. You can choose between classic wooden fan blades or exotic palm leaves. You can pick a sleek metal finish for your bedroom or a cute plane design for a child's room. Each fan creates added styles and compliments the décor already established in a given room.
By improving both the aesthetics and the atmosphere of the room, a ceiling fan will render itself vital in your cost saving and home decorating schemes. The beauty and functionality of a ceiling fan, with or without an attached lamp, will remain a staple in your home for years to come.

Hot Water Gas Heaters Best Way to Heat Your Water

When it comes to heating water, there are several different ways to go. The most
popular of water heaters are surely hot water gas heaters. This type of heater
is the most economical. However, modern technology offers several other options
for heating water. Electric and solar heaters are popular on the market. But most
people still prefer good old gas water heaters. Is there a reason for it? What
are the advantages and disadvantages of gas heaters compared to other types?

Other types of water heaters

Hot water gas heater is not your only option. There are several other heaters,

you can use where gas supply is not readily available. For example electric
water heater is in high demand and many people prefer electric to gas. However,
gas water heaters are still the most popular and majority of people who buy
heaters, buy gas water heaters.

Instant hot water heaters

A recent invention is a tankless water heater. This type of heater brings you
hot water the moment you turn the tap on. As the name suggests tankless heaters
have no storage tank for water, they heat it as you use it. They are also called
instant heaters. This is very much appreciated by many people because now they
can take bath anytime without having to worry of switching on the geyser 20-30
minutes ahead of time. Also if many people take a shower one after the other,
an instant water heater is a great advantage - you will not run out of hot water.

Solar water heaters

Solar water heaters are also a great advance in technology. With light capturing
panels installed on your roof, solar heaters use the sun as an energy source.
So in theory, solar heater is free all together, apart from the initial installation
cost. However, the initial cost is very high. And also if there are several
cloudy days, your solar water heater stops working.

And still most people prefer gas water heaters, because it is simple and also

economical. It is really much cheaper than any of the electric or solar heaters,
including tankless varieties.

Gas water heater disadvantages

There are some drawbacks to gas hot water heaters. First, compared to electric
heaters they are slow. Second, you can only use natural gas heater where there
is gas supply. But on the bright side, if you want your water cooler, you can
turn gas heater down straight away, and get the exact temperature you like.

The Pitfalls of Over Scheduling Your Child

Copyright (c) 2007 Pat Brill

It's no secret that American children have jam-packed schedules and expectations that most adults never had to deal with. But you might be surprised to learn that many children carry around a PDA to store schedules and contact information, and a cell phone to stay connected to parents who may be at work or attending a sibling's scheduled event.

Or maybe you're not surprised at all. Maybe like so many moms and dads, you practically live out of your mini-van, carting your kids from one activity to the next. Maybe you too are beginning to wonder if the violin lessons and soccer games are really worth missing out on family dinner.

For some parents, the decision to schedule a seemingly nonstop array of activities and lessons is based on the desire to give their children an "edge" over other children with respect to college admission and other life goals. Other parents are mindful of the temptations so often indulged in after school, and would rather keep their kids busy than have them get involved in drugs, alcohol, or sex. Whereas some parents simply have a hard time saying no to their children's requests to partake in extracurricular activities.

However you feel about the benefits of participating in a plethora of activities, over scheduling may be taking a toll on your child. With little or no room to relax and play, kids are stressed out. Over-scheduled kids often develop anxiety disorders and are more prone to illness.

Surprisingly, all of the extra homework and tutoring can cause over-scheduled students' grades to suffer. Not as measurable is the effect all of this running about has on a child's imagination. With no time to relax or be spontaneous, creative thinking has little chance of developing.

Not often discussed in the context of over-scheduling is the effect it has on the parents. Working full-time either in or outside of the home is stressful enough. When you add in numerous activities for each child, there is no time left for personal rejuvenation, or even sleep. When mom or dad is stressed out, it trickles down to the kids very fast. Not to mention the challenges over-scheduling poses to a relationship with a partner.

In an effort to fit everything in, families rarely experience time all together, and if they do, it is often in the car. The family dinner seems to be a thing of the past, yet it is this golden time when everyone comes together to share thoughts about the day. When a family is physically disconnected, it is easy to become emotionally disconnected. Without a strong bond with their parents, children are more likely to get involved in drugs, drinking, and promiscuous sex.

Perhaps most detrimental is the message parents are sending when they place supreme importance on achievement. Children learn by example more than anything else, and when the family culture is one of over-achievement, it can set your child up for a lifetime of stress.

In this type of environment, children may feel a low sense of self-worth, as if they can never truly measure up to your expectations. Also, the meaning of the lesson, the true benefit of the experience is lost. Instead, the honors classes, Varsity football, and volunteer activities are heralded for their ability to help your kids get into a great college.

"The greatest gift we can give our children is the deep, inner conviction that they don't have to perform for us to love and cherish them," says Dr. Alvin Rosenfeld, author of Hyper-Parenting the Over-Scheduled Child and founder of National Family Night. (Talk to New York City's Brick Church, January 2003)

If you are worried your child is over-scheduled, you need not cut out everything right away. Begin by setting aside one night a week for family time. Sit down together as a family and vote on what you would like to do together.

Once you have a few family nights under your belt, take time to really examine your family's schedule. Let each child choose one activity they would like to do most, and let the others go for now. Whenever possible, involve the entire family in a child's activity. Why not get everyone to go to Saturday's game, or the Friday night recital?

The good news is, your efforts to simplify your family's schedule and remove stressful expectations from your child's life will be felt almost immediately. It won't be long before you will treasure your "do nothing" time more than any certificate of achievement. You will soon find that the easy laughter with your partner, your child seeking you out for advice, and your own ability to breathe is worth letting go of just about any activity.

But on the bright side, if you want your water cooler, you can
turn gas heater down straight away, and get the exact temperature you like.

be life savers for a young mother.

A child music box is a must have for any new mother. Not only baby music boxes
are beautiful and compliment the decor of the nursery, but it will also save

designed in a way that helps to calm your child, and make your son or daughter
sleep soundly and quietly. And if your baby often wakes up at night a music
box will put him or her back to sleep.

You can get more than one music box. To help your baby fall asleep you will

need a box that plays some lullabies. While your child is awake you can amuse
him or her with a more fun music box. Baby music box sound is very soothing
for child's ears, it helps to calm kids down, make them stop crying. Calming
music box will save you a lot of trouble trying to put your child asleep.

Types of child music boxes you can find

Since you are going to use your child music box often, select the one that
plays more than one tune. This way your baby won't get bored with it. Some kid's
music boxes play classic children’s songs; they will probably work the
best. Note that babies respond differently to different music, so you will have
to choose carefully.

Many kids music boxes are brightly colored, which will intrigue and amuse your

child. Some have popular cartoon characters, which are also quite fun.

You can also find many Disney music boxes. They usually have figures of Cinderella,

Snow White, Tinkerbelle or Anastasia. These child music boxes are excellent
gifts for baby girls. Some of these music boxes are really well done, so it
will make your child happy for many years after she stops being a baby.

Another idea is child music jewelry box. While your daughter is a baby she

will enjoy the pleasant music, but when she grows up she can keep her little
treasures in the box. This type of music box would be very practical.

Modern Hybrid Canna Lily Improvement

Modern canna cultivars (varieties) began appearing 250 years ago with the collection of native wild cannas that are technically referred to by botanists as "species." Canna wild species produced large leaves that were fast growing with a tropical appearance in the landscaped garden. The flowers of wild canna species were small and in gardening circles were viewed as of insignificant notice as a garden subject except for the lush leaves that were highly valued in exotic landscape setting. The flowers were colorful but small and of short duration. The wild canna species were easily inter-crossed to combine widely variable genetic characteristics, until in the year, 1870, Monsieur Crozy inter-crossed an undisclosed number of wild species, that resulted in a celebrated hybrid that he named after his wife, Madame Crozy. Luther Burbank called this matching of genetic material the beginning of modern canna hybrids, after which Burbank and another plant hybridizer, Wilheim Pfitzer, also entered their own charming canna hybrids.

Luther Burbank, the notable American botanist and prolific hybridizer, was well aware of the phenomenon of back crossing various related canna lilies, and he was determined to achieve a rapid advancement in hybrid vigor by a recombination of desirable and variable plant genetic characteristics. From this large pool of variations in canna lilies, such as color, size, vigor, insect and disease resistance and cold hardiness, the plant breeder could select outstanding canna flower and leaf hybrids to market as newly named cultivars in the world of horticulture. The fact that a cross between two wild species from different continents resulted in sterile canna hybrids was also noted by Luther Burbank and was considered an advantage. When canna hybrids result in fertile (seed producers) cultivars, the plants energy is focused on seed production, and the blooming process will slow down or completely stop. Gardeners want plants that will flower continuously, and therefore, sterile canna hybrids are more desirable than seed producers. It appears that the crossing of widely divergent canna species will usually produce sterile canna offspring.

If a canna plant is a non-seed producer, it is said to be sterile, however, it may only be considered sterile when examined as a female seed producer, but frequently the pollen (male) from a "so called", sterile male canna species and a backcross onto a fertile female may result in further hybridization with increased hybrid vigor. Those canna offspring may be either seed producers or non-seed producers. This fact was well understood and applied by Luther Burbank who introduced vast improvements in American horticultural crops of flowers, fruits, grains, and vegetables.

Luther Burbank noted in his book, Flowers, Vol VIII, page 41, one of his eight volumes of horticultural writings: "Just now white cannas of very good quality are appearing and every desirable quality in plant and quality are being brought forth."

It was reported on page 33 that Burbank's hybrid canna "Tarrytown" won the grand gold medal, at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, N.Y. as the best canna exhibited at the time.

This canna had a special feature of flowers that dropped to the ground unlike "many canna lilies that tended to hold their blossoms, thus having an untidy appearance." Burbank crossed the Crozy canna, a large flower with varying color (yellow and orange) with Canna flaccida, a native yellow canna flower with large flowers that are not long lasting.

This native Canna flaccida was discovered growing by William Bartram in 1773, the early American explorer and writer, growing in salt water ditches near Fort Frederica, Ga. On the island on St. Simon's as reported on page 153 of his book, Travels, "What can equal the rich golden flowers of the Canna lutea," today identified and renamed, Canna flaccida, "which ornaments the banks of yon serpentine rivulet, meandering, over the meadows?" Canna flaccida still flourishes in salt water ditches there and on the black banks river near the Cloister Hotel at Sea Island, Ga., where it grows near the water beautifully, being used as an ornamental in many yards as a marsh garden plant. These native plants appear to have no insect or disease problems. Mature seeds from the golden-yellow flowers fall into the water and float downstream to establish new canna colonies. Canna flaccida will grow in ordinary gardens if adequate water in available.

William Bartram also reported in Travels, page 424, that he found a native Indian canna with small scarlet flowers that grow up to 9 feet in height, then identified as Canna indica. Many southern gardens today still grow this vigorous clumping canna giant as a privacy hedge. Seed pods are many and this canna is readily crossed with the pollen of hybrid non-seed producing cannas. This plant appears to have a high resistance to bugs and disease. Several reports of Canna indica in the literature do not appear to be the same Canna indica, as described by Bartram in 1773 growing at Mobile, Alabama. An excellent drawing of Canna indica (wild Indian canna) is located on page 218 of Bartram's, Travels. Luther Burbank does not report whether he used Canna indica in his hybridizations, as he had used Canna flaccida (Canna lutea) in his hybridization of the gold medal prize winner at the Pan American Exhibition in Buffalo, N.Y. In 1901, that he called, "Tarrytown," was judged the best canna shown.

Thousands of canna cultivars have been introduced into the world of gardening. It has been quite easy to produce new canna cultivars, for instance, if a dusting of pollen is placed on the female part of a canna flower a seed pod can be formed with several seed, and if multiple flowers of canna plants are pollinated, multiple seed pods can be formed. Any gardener can perform this simple procedure of seed production.

For many years gardeners allowed the canna seed to dry, turning black, and a hard shell eventually developed that would prevent the seed from germinating into a plant unless an iron file had been used to open a hole in the round seed about the size of an olive seed to initiate germination. If a file was not used it might take two years for the canna seed to sprout normally. A technique has been developed that avoids the cumbersome seed germination procedures of the past. The seed pods are harvested as soon as the outside green cells begin to change color to yellowish. The seed inside will vary in color from green to light brown or beige, and should be soaked overnight in a solution of fungicide to control rot. The seed then can be placed in a small cloth bag and allowed to be drenched in running water for 12 hours. If these seed are then soaked for another hour in fungicide and are placed in a flat pan at a sunny warm location they will begin sprouting in a few days. As soon as the seed sprout they may be individually transferred into separate containers to grow, and after the first leaves appear a mixture of miracle-grow will rapidly mature the sprouting seed into flowering plants. TyTy has been successful in growing flowering canna plants only 60 days after sprouting the seed. It is very interesting that when leaved canna plants are crossed, about 25% of the seed will grow into red leaf canna hybrids. This red leaf color is apparent only a few days after sprouting.

It is of great interest to the gardening public that new canna cultivars should feature flowers that fall to the ground after a day or two to be replaced by fresh opening blooms that leave the plant with a fresh appearance, otherwise, withered brown flowers are unpleasant to the eyes of most gardeners. Amateur hybridizers should also keep in mind that most gardeners do not want to experience a canna that must be continuously cared for or nursed, requiring spraying, constant watering or dead-heading.

The popularity of canna lilies has been apparent from the huge plantings at the U.S. Capitol and The White House grounds; serous plantings at Disney in California and Orlando, Fl, and extensive landscapes along U.S. Interstate highways and in city boulevards and parks.

Looking After Your Air Conditioner

Looking After Your Air Conditioner

When it comes to getting the most from your air conditioner there are some things you can do that will extend its life and keep it operating at maximum efficiency. This is all to do with quality maintenance. A lot of this you can do yourself, some will require hiring a contractor.

1- First are filters. The filter in your air conditioner is very important and changes should be made every three to six months, depending on how often you use it.

There is nothing wrong with different the filter too often but not varying it often can be very expensive in the long run.

Ice increase - This happens from low airflow through the evaporator coil. If the ice build up is intense enough it can damage the evaporator coil.

Low performance - A dirty filter will deplete the efficiency of the air conditioning unit and increase operating costs by as much as 30% or more.

Increased wear and tear on the compressor - This is because it has to run for longer periods of time to do its job. Longer running time means less of a life span for the unit. Compressor changes are costly!.

2- Look at the evaporator coil inside the air handler often to make sure there is no dust build up on the surface of the coil. This form causes the same problems as a dirty filter.

3- During the start of each cooling year it is a good idea to look at the outside section of the air conditioner. Look at the unit and make sure there is nothing on top of the condenser that will alter airflow. Look between the fins of the condenser to see that it isnt blocked with pollen or insects. These tend to accumulate over a period of time and usually may not be a problem. Using a hose pipe on the condenser is in the main enough to remove the unwanted debris.

4- Check the belt in the and change when needed. Most air conditioners produced today use direct motors and only need the motor bearings oiled once a year.

5- It is also important to check contactors and electrical components. These will be located inside the condensing unit. The contactor operates the compressor and the contacts get bunged and need to be changed every now and then. Changing manufacturers use various types of contactors. Some last longer than others.

Selecting the right kind of air conditioner for you and your property is very effective. The above points are all vital to help it work for years and get value for money.

A Brief History of Feng Shui

Feng Shui (pronounced as “fung schway”) literally translated means “wind and water.” It is an ancient Chinese art and science of placement and arranging objects and space within the environment so as to achieve harmony and balance. The object is promote and nurture the flow of good Chi (pronounced “chee”,) which is a Chinese word similar to “energy” in English.

Feng Shui is not simply a decorating style. In fact, it is a discipline with rules and guidelines that can be adapted to fit with many different decorating styles. Truly it is a belief system which combines many different religious, geographical, astrological, mathematical, and philosophical ideas, as well as aesthetic values.

The origins of the term Feng Shui have been said to come from the Jin Dynasty (265-420.) In the Burial Book written by Guo Pu, Chi rides the wind and stops at the boundary created by the water. Ancient Chinese believed in manipulating the Chi so that it was directed with purpose and not wasted. Since this art and science was based on the wind and water, the term Feng Shui was born.

Today, it is a widely held belief that all Feng Shui books were burned during the Qin dynasty (221 BC – 206 BC.) One of the most authoritative works on the subject was written by Huang Shi Gong and given to Zhang Liang during the latter part of the Qin dynasty. Later, in the Tang Dynasty (618 – 907,) Yang Yun Song and his disciples wrote several books on the subject. Those particular works are the most authoritative work used by all Feng Shui schools. Unfortunately, the books were very cryptic and used knowledge largely passed down through the oral tradition.

Feng Shui is also believed to be intuitive and derivable from our own common sense and our sense of what is natural in our environment. Eitel, a German Missionary in China in the latter half of the 19th century, wrote in his work, Feng-Shui, Or, The Rudiments Of Natural Science In China(1873), that the origin of Feng Shui is a belief system that is unique to the writings of Chu His and other writers from the Song dynasty (1126-1278.) Chu His is more well known for influencing Confucianism, and while his writings and commentaries may have become the foundation for Feng Shui, Feng Shui’s roots truly go back as far as original Chinese Philosophy.

By the mid 19th century, Feng Shui had become such a part of life that the Chinese government published all the materials necessary for use in the practice of Feng Shui. In fact, as English speaking settlers came to China in the mid 19th century, they had a difficult time adapting to the way of Feng Shui. Much like modern day contractors have to conform to building codes and other community rules and regulations, the English settlers had difficulties in construction and renovation because their design ideas did not conform to the Feng Shui principles, and were therefore rejected.

Further early introduction of Feng Shui to westerners did not go well either. When foreigners wanted to purchase land, and those foreigners were not welcome, they would be directed to land that did not lend itself to good Feng Shui. Early western writings on the subject of Feng Shui were equally as unkind. In 1885, one author wrote that “if any one wishes to see what a howling wilderness of erratic dogmatism the human mind can arrive, when speculation usurps the place of science, and theories are reverenced equally with facts, let him endeavour to fathom even the elementary principles of that abyss of insane vagaries, the science of Feng-Shui.”

Over the last few decades, many English books have been published on the topic of Feng Shui. They usually focus on interior design, decorating, architecture, or landscape design. Reception from English audiences has often been skeptical, particularly towards the use of crystals, wind chimes, fountains, and mirrored balls. Claims that Feng Shui can improve one’s life, finances, and relationships are dismissed by some as mythology and new age mysticism. Still, others in the west have adapted Feng Shui to their own lives and report overwhelming positive benefits.

Charles Chang is a Feng Shui enthusiast and author. He enjoys helping others with feng shui tips through his articles and website.

Is Cremation Right For You

For many, death is something that they do not want to think about or even discuss. But there is no doubt it is a fact of life. Although there is no way of avoiding it, there are ways in which we one can plan for its occurrence and help those that are left to deal with the situation with dignity and grace. One of those ways it to consider cremation.

The choice between being buried or cremated is very personal to everyone and for some cremation is not an option they would likely choose. However, the others that choose cremation have many possible reasons for doing so, the main ones being simplicity, the low cost, and the many memorial possibilities that are available.

Today, almost 30% of Americans are choosing to be cremated rather than buried and more than 700,000 cremations are performed each year in the US. Due to the growing popularity, there are now over 1,700 crematories offering their services around the country.

There are a number of reasons as to why people are now choosing cremation over burial and these include:

1. Less Expensive Than Traditional Burials - Cremation is a cheaper alternative compared to burial as you do not need to purchase a plot of land or an expensive coffin. Many people who choose to be cremated believe they can save their families' unnecessary expense.

2. Environmental Reasons - As you have no coffin or there is no burial involved. Land is not required where a cremation is concerned and so your body is not placed in the earth along with other items which may be detrimental to it.

3. Personal Choice - Many people prefer today that their families celebrate their lives and allow them to go back to their normal lives as quickly as possible. Also, cremation is a low-key way to go without the need for a huge funeral procession.

4. Ashes Can Be Released - Many people like the idea that their ashes can be strewn at a favourite location and it is also comforting for the family to know that they can put their loved one’s ashes at a favourite spot and allow them rest where they were happiest for the rest of eternity. You may decide it is your own back garden or even on a mountainside somewhere. Where your ashes are strewn is entirely up to you.

5. You Can Still Have a Ceremony - Although a coffin and big funeral will not be necessary, you may want to choose this route anyway. You could have a memorial service and a follow-up service which takes place at the time when your ashes are strewn if that is what you want.

As you can see, cremation provides many options, and can be handled in any way you desire. Expressing these concerns with loved ones can ensure that your last wishes are honored and respected.

Building Tips For Screened In Porches

Sitting out on my porch or in my backyard as the sun sets is one of the most pleasant activities that I enjoy in the summer. The temperature has cooled down during this season so I can enjoy being outside without feeling like I am burning up. However, being outdoors in the summer also has its share of downfalls.

For instance, I have to deal with the amount of mosquitoes and bugs that hang out in my yard. They seem to be more numerous than ever during this season. These insects can really make sitting outside at dusk an unpleasant experience. Fortunately, screened in porches can remedy this problem. I hope to have one soon myself before my body has been drained of blood.

Do you want to have the protection that screened in porches can offer? You can have people to build it for you or you can just screen a porch you already have. Doing it by yourself can be tricky because it does take some skill to get it right. If you don’t have enough skills to build screened in porches, then contacting a contractor might be the better option. Ask how much such an endeavor might cost, and how long it would take them to complete it. However, you may not get your porch finished for weeks because they may be busy. You should look into screened in porches the early spring so that it will be done by the time the bugs come out to play and the sun gets hot.

You can also use kits to build your own screened in porches. However, the resulting project may not be very durable or reliable. You can sit on your porch and enjoy the weather without getting bit if it is reliable. Use your common sense when you are trying to determine if a kit will work on your particular porch. Perhaps you need something that is custom built. Some people want to match their screened in porch to their own personalities so they prefer custom built porches.

You can also order a DVD from companies that specialize in screened in porches to see what they have to offer. You can examine examples of screened in porches from these DVDs. You can also view what they have done in the past and the colors and sizes that they can do from the video. Ask about a final price if you decide to order. The final price will depend on how much work has to be done on your porch.

Benzodiazepines are used to combat panic attacks and insomnia. With these medications there can be a high risk of addiction, although it is one of the most commonly used to treat panic attacks symptoms. According to some medical professionals Benzodiazepines are successful in over 70% of patients for reducing panic attack symptoms. Benzodiazepines do have a number of possible side effects including drowsiness, decreased mental sharpness, slurred speech, clumsiness, low sex drive, low moods and irritability.

Tricyclic Antidepressants

Tricyclic Antidepressants can be used to treat panic attacks as well as severe depression, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Side effects include constipation, difficulty urinating, blurred vision, loss of sex drive, impotence, weight gain, drowsiness, irritation, and disrupted sleep patterns. These medications are only sort term solutions for panic attacks.

If you are experiencing panic attacks, it could be helpful for you to try some kind of medication. However you need to remember that these medications will not cure panic attacks, they only help to reduce the symptoms. Please consult your physician for advice.

This guide on choosing bathtubs should hopefully make the difference between picking the right one and the wrong one.

bathtub, with reviews of various brands and styles like wood bathtubs and whirlpool tubs.

Are You Looking to Adopt a Child

I felt very sad when I found out that my best friend and her husband discovered that it was impossible for them to have children. My best friend only became aware that she had some medical issues when she decided to try to start a family. She was devastated at this unfortunate discovery. I can imagine how hard it is to be told that I can’t have children because I cannot imagine my life without my daughter. They decided that the best thing they can do was to adopt a child, after a few depressing months.

They told me that they had a great deal of concerns about looking to adopt a child from our own country. This is probably due to the horror stories about the birth parents who return to take their child back years later. Those instances do exist, although they are very rare. They don’t even want to think about dealing with those situations.

They attended some seminars about international adoptions and met with an adoption agency to prepare for the possible adoption. It is not as easy to adopt a child from another country as one would imagine. For instance, it can end up costing even more money than an adoption in the US. There are also a few more restrictions and concerns that you need to deal with if you want to adopt internationally.

My best friend’s husband’s company would give aid in adoption fees that amounted to about $2,000. However, it would not be enough to cover the expensive costs and legal fees. That’s just the way it works, even if it doesn’t seem fair that adopting a child would cost so much money. In my opinion, giving a child a safe and loving home shouldn’t cost a small fortune.

They were looking into getting a home equity loan just to be able to adopt a child. Fortunately, the bank was willing to bend over backwards to get them that money, so they were able to begin the international adoption process. They learned about some of the strange requirements that some countries require for international adoption along the paths of their research. For instance, it turned out that China has some strict guidelines that they didn’t meet. That means, adopting a child from China was not an option for them.

They finally decided that they wanted to be foster parents first and hoped to adopt from that experience, after a year of research and exhaustion. The fees are almost nonexistent once you decide to adopt a child that was in foster care. The process is a lot less painless so they decided that this would be a good option. They managed to adopt a child through a foster program after about a year.

Choosing the Correct Air Purifier for Your Home

Much more so than in the past, we now live in a very health conscious world. We have become very aware of the health effects of many things in our life. We now know that where our health is concerned, prevention is not only better than the cure, it is also very much cheaper. We tend not to smoke anymore since it affects our lungs.
We are careful in the things we eat, knowing that food can affect our cholesterol and heart and some other organs of our body. We measure the amount of alcohol we take since we know it too can have adverse affects.

The one area that people seem to ignore is the one area that could be the most important of all, the air we breathe. Because it is so ubiquitous we feel that there is nothing that we as individuals can do about the air. We tend to leave care of the atmosphere to governments and large agencies. This attitude is largely correct when you are speaking about the outdoors. There isn’t much you can do as an individual about the great outdoors except move to another place if the current air quality is poor. But where do you spend most of your time? Like most Americans you spend the greater portion of your life indoors, either in your house, apartment, office or car. It is in these environments that you as an individual can control the air that you and your family breathe.

It has long been recognized that fresh air, that is outdoor air, is healthier than indoor air. That is because in the confined spaces of a house or car, air pollutants can build up. There is household dust, pollen, smoke and pet dander. At best, these can be a mild irritant, and at worst a serious health threat. You can control this environment by removing these allergens.

The best means of ensuring health and clean air is to purchase an air purifier. Now air purifiers can be expensive, unwieldy, and loud, and carry high maintenance costs. Not so with the Ionic Pro air purifier. The unit is available in 4 different sizes, from large rooms of up to 500 sq. feet, to smaller units for offices and bedrooms, to mini for pet areas and bathrooms and one for the car.

This purifier, unlike others, works silently to circulate air by first putting a positive charge into the air and then attracting the air with negatively charged collection blades. The collection blades trap allergens such as dust, pollen, carpet hairs and pet dander. This means that the only maintenance is to remove blades, clean and reinsert. This simple air purification solution delivers years of healthy air in your home or car. Purchase of such a unit is simple, just go to www.tvproductshq.com

Empowered The Single Mother Only Child Household

Description
The cruelty of success is described by a very successful single mother as she gives-up/let’s go of her son as he leaves home for college. Advice is shared and support given to other single mothers to help them achieve and take pride in the unique experience of the single mother, only child household.

Article
My son is the most precious experience of my life. He is a treasure…my treasure, but never really a possession…just my responsibility as he was entrusted to me when I became his Mother. Elliot is hope, joy and love. He is one of my best friends.

I could end this little essay right now, having said all that is really important. However, the experience from which these sweeping truths were derived may be a resource for analysis, comfort, empathy and hope in providing a little inspiration to other single mothers of only children and the communities that support them or ignore them. We are a significant population and have some unique advantages in the parent-child relationship.

Let me make something very clear. This article is not intended to be a solicitation for a needy demographic. Rather, it is a celebration of success and the pain and joy that makes any success in life possible.

The single mother of one should not try to control her child. This parental convenience is not a practical option and has no value for the child. The single mother of one child has no choice but to empower the child. This is a necessity. In the long run, you are both better off. Teach and don’t criticize. Just answer questions objectively. This way your child will tell you what he/she needs to know in order to develop a skill. The child will develop the skill faster, efficiently and without emotional trauma. You are both empowered. There is no need for control.

We became a single parent family when Elliot was three years old. It became impossible for me to do everything I wanted to do for my child. I hated the world for allowing this situation to exist. I had no choice but to teach Elliot how to do those things I could no longer do for him.

There were many times I could not be present or could not afford the time to do things for him. Instead, I taught him during the time we had together. We played learning games, like Suzuki violin lessons. Elliot and I had fun. I was his mentor, not his dictator.

Elliot learned to make choices. He was soon able to recognize when I was unable to help him and he took care of his own needs. He also recognized when I needed his help. His skills were critical for both of us and I let him know how much I appreciated them. We empowered each other when there were no other resources.

There was no lack of self-esteem. We knew what we could do and that we could do whatever we had to do. It was also evident we did not have to be dependent/victims of the lack of character of other people who maybe never did deserve to have us a part of their world. Actually, we are now most grateful to those people for giving us the opportunity to experience what real love and real responsibility are all about. After all, my son and I have each other because of each other.

My son is one of my best friends. I am proud to call him my friend. He is very accomplished and capable. We both graduated this year: Elliot from high school and I completed my MBA. Elliot helped me with math. I helped him with writing. We are both musicians. Elliot graduated concertmaster of his high school orchestra…the flagship magnet school of the city of Chicago. Forgive me for bragging. We are very skilled at empowering each other. I doubt this will ever change.

Elliot is studying architecture at one of the finest research institutes in the country, right here in the great city of Chicago. His guitar and violin are his favorite hobbies.

Elliot lives on campus. Even though he is not far away, watching him walk out the door was hard…not because I am worried, but because I miss him so much. However, the time has come and he is so ready. This seems a very harsh reward for success. It is a smile through tears…a happy hurt, like when I gave birth to him. I am so lucky to be his Mom.
